Supplementary Course for Lifting Equipment Operators

Training designed to help operators understand the technical specifications of the equipment, identify its components and master the principles of stability. It prepares them to run the checklist, understand maintenance and apply the vital safety rules, as well as to spot structural wear and confirm that records are properly documented.

About the Training

Understand the technical specifications, identify the components and master the principles of stability. Learn to run the checklist, understand maintenance and apply the vital safety rules. Spot structural wear and confirm that records are properly documented. Read automatic safety panels and understand the monitoring system. Relate angle and radius correctly to load limits and calculate losses caused by sling angles. Distinguish the primary phases of planning personnel transfers, coordinate the landing stages and apply the immediate stop protocols during transfer. Assess the impact of weather and apply operational and ergonomic limits. Carry out the mandatory daily walkaround and inspection precisely. Operate the crane while stabilising the load with the correct commands and communication, and perform heavy lifting and a simulated personnel transfer in practice.

What you will learn:

  • Technical Specifications and Crane Components — API 2C specification, crane assembly types (I, II and III), rated capacity, SWL x WLL and component identification (hooks, blocks, booms and transmission systems)
  • Operational Procedures and Maintenance — Stop and emergency release procedures, pre-operational checklist and operator duties per NR-34.10.11, maintenance regulations (NR-12) and inspection with water bags
  • Control Systems and Load Chart — LMI, RSI systems, load cells and warning light codes, load chart reading by weight/radius/angle, and EIPS wire rope strength with sling angle losses
  • Personnel Transfer and Risk Factors — Lift classification (onboard, backload), personnel transfer operations (Billy Pugh and Frog basket), Beaufort Scale for wind limits, and manual handling limits per NR-17
  • Theoretical Assessment — Written assessment on NR-11/34/37 standards, load chart reading, inspections and operational procedures
  • Field Stage on the Platform — Recognition of crane controls, pre-operational inspection, lifting and slewing exercises, and personnel transfer simulation with emergency maneuver
